Time to pop over to the Isle of Wight for the latest little chat with a Wessex Premier player. Step forward Brading Town’s John Chambers.

Nickname? Chambo
Age? 24
Employment? I work for a consultancy company
Birthplace? Walsall
What school did you go to? Sandown middle school and Sandown High
How long have you known your oldest friend? 24 years – Alan Connor
Hobbies outside of football? Watching sport, playing rugby, although I don’t play much anymore and listening to music
Previous clubs: Shanklin, Oakfield and East Cowes Vics
Favourite pro team and why? Walsall because I was born there
Favourite pro player and why? Charlie Ntamark. He played for Walsall and Cameroon – he was man of the match in the first game I went to watch, which is in 1992
Best ground you’ve played on? It’s a bit sad but probably Newport on the Isle of Wight
Best player you’ve played with? Roger Roper (a current team-mate)
Best manager you’ve played under? Phil Moore (Brading manager)
Manager you’d like to play under? Steve McClaren because that would mean I’d be playing for England!
How long have you been at your present club? Two and a half seasons
How many brothers and sisters have you got? Two younger sisters
Who does your dad support? Walsall
Does your mum like football or puts up with it? She doesn’t like football
Does your girlfriend/wife like football or puts up with it? I’ve not got one of those at the moment
Name your two England strikers? Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen when he’s fit

DVD you bought? Can’t remember but it was probably a Walsall DVD and the last one I bought was Peter Kay

Holiday you had? Went to Spain when I was 15 with my parents
TV programme you watched? Match of the Day
Book you read? Roald Dahl but I can’t remember which one – Paul Merson’s autobiography was the last one I read
Newspaper you read? Daily Star
Website you looked at? Probably the Isle of Wight football website. The last one I looked at was the Walsall supporters message board
Song you sang and where? It was at primary school in a nativity play
Goal you scored? Sandown under 9’s. I scored one a week earlier but it was offside. I didn’t understand the offside rule at the time so when I scored again I didn’t know whether to celebrate or not
Yellow card you received? It was my first ever game in mens football playing for a Shanklin Sunday team. I was about 15
Red card you received? Playing for East Cowes Vics against Hythe and Dibden about four years ago – it’s my only one as well
What was the last sport you played other than football? Golf in a Brading golf day, where I beat the managers son Simon, who is a proper golfer
First football match you watched on tv? It was Bolton against Arsenal in the FA Cup in the early 90’s
First film you ever watched? Gremlins
First concert you went to? Oasis at Southampton, which was very good
First restaurant you went to? The Thaiburn in Birmingham
Name four people you’d never invite to dinner? Roger Gregory because he eats too much. Diouf because I don’t like him. Christiano Ronaldo because I don’t like him and Robbie Savage for the same reason
Name four people you’d love to invite to dinner? James Temple because he’d probably bring some good looking woman with him, my dad because he’s funny, Pete Bass because he’d keep us entertained and Kelly Brooks because she has some nice assets!
