| Manager of the Month - February 2004
Ian Robinson (Lymington & N Milton)

The sixth manager of the month award for the season was an
easy choice to make. Going in to their last game of the month, Lymington &
New Milton had won all five previous outings in February.
So a victory over arch enemy Wimborne Town on the last Saturday
of the month was simply the icing on the cake for the New Foresters.
The decision to award Ian Robinson the manager of the month
for February therefore wasn't the most difficult of choices.
For the record, it's played six, won six, scored 11 and conceded
just two.
The Linnets have clawed their way back to fifth in the table,
four points behind AFC Newbury in fourth place, with four games in hand (at
the time of placing this on the site).
And they weren't against easy opposition, not by any stretch
of the imagination. Three of the games came against Barry Blankley's AFC Totton,
fellow Hampshire League semi finalists Fareham Town and Guy Whittingham's AFC
Newbury.
Together with victories against Moneyfields and Hamble ASSC,
who both make it difficult for a footballing side like the Linnets to break
them down, Robinson's troops had amassed 15 out of 15 points, and won eight
in a row going back to January.
It was then time to for the mouth-watering visit of Wimborne
Town, who were keen to take advantage of title favourites Winchester City's
shock 2-1 defeat at BAT.
The 2-0 victory over the Magpies in itself was a result which
made many people stand up and take note, but, it was the performance that was
even more impressive.
Wimborne were simply never allowed into the opposition penalty
box, such was the solid way in which the Linnets defended their goal.
And up front, Ben Thomson, Jon Mulhern and Michael Jackson caused
the league leaders many problems.
It may have been an off day for the Magpies but, you certainly
couldn't take the glory away from a Linnets side that at the time of placing
this on the website seem to be a team brimming with self belief.
Congratulations Ian - well deserved.
