Jody Craddock to officially name the Stephen Bernard Stand at Hurn Bridge

Christchurch Football Club have confirmed that after clarification from third parties, their main stand at Hurn Bridge will be officially named ‘The Stephen Bernard Stand’.

‘Stevie B’ as he was affectionately known as, was tragically killed in a car crash back in November, where two of his friends also lost their lives.

Wolves and former Christchurch defender Jody Craddock will officially name the stand in honour of Stevie

Stevie and his father Tony, and indeed the whole family, have always followed Wolverhampton Wanderers, so it’s fitting that former Christchurch player and now long time professional with Championship outfit Wolves, Jody Craddock, has a agreed to officially name the stand in Stevie’s honour.

Jody was delighted to have been asked by Christchurch's Mick Ryan and having lost a child of his own, understands the trauma the 'Bernard' family are having to face.

The idea to name the stand after Stevie may sound like the club have copied the idea of Hamworthy United’s, as they have recently announced they will name a new stand after the recently departed Irvin Brown.

However Christchurch had this in mind way back in November but were unable to announce anything until Jody Craddock confirmed that he would be able to attend.

Mick Ryan added, “We have more respect for ‘Big Irv’ than to try and pinch the limelight.”

The stand will be named after Stevie some time in May when the football season is over, both for Christchurch FC and for Wolves.
