Wessex Premier Round Up
on 11/09/06 by Andy Starmore
Wimborne Town stormed into second spot in the league after a 5-2 win at Brockenhurst.

Brock found themselves a goal down after just a minute when Andy Culliford found the back of the net with a good finish.

With just under half an hour gone, the Magpies were 4-0 up when an own goal, a Gareth Barnes header and a comfortable shot for Scott Joyce effectively killed the game off.

Joyce could and probably should have made it 5-0 but his one-on-one with keeper Alan Walker-Harris saw the shot stopper come out on top.

Despite Brock looking likely to receive a massacre, they were not ready to lay down and surrender at that point and clawed two goals back before half time via Ben Osborne and Paul ‘Chalky’ White.

Paul Roast made it 5-2 in the second half.

Pitchside caught up with Wimborne boss Paul Arnold and Brock manager Graham Kemp after the game. Read their thoughts on the site soon.

The most intriguing game of the day had to be the AFC Totton versus Fareham Town fixture at Testwood Park, which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The game began with a stunning goal after just three minutes, when Dean Blake put Fareham in front from the half way line.

Danny Potter then equalised for Totton before Warren Hunt restored Fareham’s advantage.

Mike Gosney made it 2-2 and then Mark Osman put Totton in front.

Gavin James then levelled for Fareham to complete a six goal thriller.

Seven goals then at Brockenhurst and six at Totton, so how many at Poole Town?……….9!

The Dolphins sunk Alton Town at Tatnam in emphatic fashion, battering their opponents 8-1.

Karim Benssaouda and Carl Chivers helped themselves to a brace each, with Steve Strong, Hogan, Dave Sturgess and Richard Glennister also finding the back of the Alton net.

The comprehensive win puts the Dolphins into sixth spot in the table.

Cowes Sports continued their excellent start to the campaign, with a 2-0 win over Christchurch at Westwood Park.

Chris Elliott and Ollie Buckett were on target for the Islanders.

Nick Collier was on target for Bemerton Heath Harlequins, who beat Horndean at Western Way with the only goal of the game.

Three points and a clean sheet would have been very welcomed by a side who had previously been hammered 8-0 by Fareham Town.

One goal also settled the issue at Hamble ASSC, where Nicky Wyatt gave visitors Moneyfields all three points.

Finally Brading Town won the battle of the Wessex Premier newcomers with a 3-0 win at Ringwood Town.

Giancarlo Covich opened the scoring for the Islanders, with Mitch Day scoring two more after the break.

In the FA Vase, Gosport Borough breezed past Downton at Privett Park 4-0 in a first qualifying round match.

Hamworthy United also went through 2-0 at home to Shepton Mallett.

VT FC were knocked out in a home tie against Chalfont St Peter 2-0.
